She is responsible for developing a culture of safety within the Amarillo VA Health Care System.  She began her nursing career as a Certified Nurses Aide at the age of 15, working in a local nursing home in Kansas, and has served in health care ever since. Mrs. Michell received her BSN in 1995 and her MSN in 2008 from West Texas A&M University. Over her career, she has had the honor of working in med/surg, home health care, hospice, OR/PACU, cardiac med/surg and ICU, as a nursing instructor at WTAMU and as a clinical nurse educator. Prior to her appointment as the Chief Quality Officer, she served as the Chief of Quality, Safety, Value Service since November, 2013. She appreciates the opportunity to “serve those who have borne the battle.”
