Prior to this role, he was the Chief of Staff at John J. Pershing VAMC beginning in October 2018. As Chief of Staff, Dr. Gagliano is responsible for all the clinical operations at the Beckley VAMC and two community clinics in Greenbrier and Mercer counties. Dr. Gagliano earned his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, and graduate degree in Health Administration from Pennsylvania State University. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, and fellowship in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina at the University of Illinois Eye Infirmary in Chicago, IL. He is a graduate of the United States Army War College (1998) and earned a Certification as a Physician Executive (CPE) from the American Association for Physician Leadership (2001). In 2003, Dr. Gagliano served as the Iraq Theater Surgeon and Commander of the 30th Medical Brigade during the invasion and occupation of Iraq. He retired from active duty in 2013 as a U.S. Army Veteran with more than 30 years of military service. Dr. Gagliano is married to Rosalind, also a U.S. Army Veteran, who is a graduate of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing in Washington, D.C. and St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio, TX. They have two adult daughters, Lauren and Amanda, and one granddaughter, Tula.
