Dr. James Gray began work at the Cheyenne VAMC in 2014 as Chief of Medicine and subsequently became Associate Chief of Staff. He was appointed as Chief of Staff in March, 2018 following appointment as Interim Chief of Staff in January, 2017. His medical career includes both VA and private sector experience including faculty appointments at the University of Missouri, the University of Texas and Baylor University. He has previous VA appointments at the Harry Truman, the Audie Murphy, and the Thomas Creek VA Medical Centers. He was in private practice for many years and more recently was Executive Vice President/Chief Medical Officer for Hillcrest Health System in Texas. Dr. Gray received a BS from Harding University in 1966, and MD from the University of Missouri in 1971. He is board certified for both Internal Medicine, and Gastroenterology.
