She completed residency in family medicine and fellowships in geriatric medicine and faculty development at the University of Pittsburgh. She was a Clinical Professor at the University of Pittsburgh from 2009 to 2015 and served as Geriatric Fellowship Program Director. Dr. Cox-Vance is board certified in family medicine and geriatric medicine as well as being a Certified Medical Director with the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care.

A native of Ohio, Dr. Cox-Vance moved back to the state to be closer to her family in 2018 when she became the Community Living Center Medical Director at Chillicothe VA. She became the Chief for Geriatrics Extended Care Line in 2016 and a 2018 graduate of the VHA Healthcare Leadership and Development Program. Dr. Cox Vance became the Deputy Chief of Staff in 2020. Dr. Cox-Vance was appointed Chief of Staff in March of 2021.
