Prior to this appointment, he served as the Associate Chief of Staff for the Office of Community Care at VHSO, streamlining processes and improving access for Veterans to their care in the private sector. At the Central Arkansas Veterans Health Care System, he provided care to Veterans as an attending physician in general surgery and endoscopy, and was the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Community Care. His medical career spans more than 35 years, serving in private practice in both general surgery and emergency medicine, and the Medical Director for Humana in both Arkansas and Oklahoma. Dr. Slezak has been a  Diplomate of the American College of Surgeons since 1987, and is Board Certified in General Surgery. He has dedicated his prestigious career to advancing health care in the state of Arkansas, and has a passion for serving Veterans.

Dr. Slezak is a graduate of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He continues to hold the position of Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery and Trauma at UAMS. He is has been married to his lovely wife Claudia since 1977. They have two children and two grandchildren.
