Dr. Martin is a board-certified Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician. He joined VA full-time in 1996 and among his first assignments was Chief of the Pulmonary Section at the Salem VA Health Care System.

Prior to his Fayetteville VA assignment, Dr. Martin has served as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Salem VA Health Care System. Other Salem VA Health Care System assignments include Chief, Medical Service and Acting Chief of Staff.  In 2021, he served as the Acting Chief Medical Officer for the VA Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network, which consists of seven medical centers and 34 associated sites of care in North Carolina and Virginia.

Dr. Martin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1982, and his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University in 1987.

He is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Thoracic Society, American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians.
