Mr. Michael Simmons was appointed the Associate Director, Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive (ADPCS/CNE) at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHCS) on July 17, 2022. In this role, he is responsible for strategic leadership and operations of Nursing, Social Work, Sterile Processing, and Chaplaincy.

Before arriving at VAGLAHCS, he served as ADPCS/CNE at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (Lovell FHCC). Uniquely, Lovell FHCC is an integrated VA and Navy DoD Health Care system delivering care to Veterans, military recruits, active-duty military, and their dependents, including pediatric services.  

Mr. Simmons held other positions: Deputy ADPCS and Chief Nurse at VAGLAHCS, Nurse Manager at Jesse Brown VA, and various nurse management and staff nurse roles at Hines VA and private sector facilities. His specialties include Cardiac step-down, Medical Oncology, Case management, Long-term care, and Executive nursing leadership.  

Mr. Simmons obtained a Master of Nursing (MSN) in Executive Leadership from Benedictine University, a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) from Governors State University, an Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) from Triton College, and a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Diploma from Capital Area. Mr. Simmons holds board certifications in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Progressive Care Nursing, and Nurse Executive, Advanced. He is an active member of professional nursing and healthcare associations, advocating for improved healthcare policy.
