Mr. Barrett Franklin has served as Deputy Network Director and Chief Operations Officer for the VA New England Healthcare System since 2015. One of 18 Integrated Service Networks within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, it’s 18,000+ employees and $3.7+ billion operating budget span eight medical centers, 43 outpatient clinics, six nursing homes and two domiciliaries.
Prior to his appointment as Deputy Network Director and COO, he served as the network’s Chief of Healthcare Technology Management and in clinical engineering roles within its Boston and Providence health systems as well as for a large engineering consulting firm as a Medical Technology and Clinical Engineering Consultant. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Certified Clinical Engineer, and a graduate of Leadership VA and the VISN 1 Transformational Leadership Program.
He currently serves on the board of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, as a member and past vice president of the Healthcare Technology Foundation Council of the Global Clinical Engineering Alliance, and on the Membership Committee of the American College of Healthcare Executive’s Massachusetts Chapter. He completed his MBA at Northwestern University (Kellogg School of Management), MS in Biomedical Engineering at University of Connecticut, and BS at Worcester Polytechnic.
