Mr. Garza was appointed Associate Director of the Miami VA Healthcare System on July 19, 2020; where he provides executive leadership of the day-to-day administrative operations of a large and complex 1a facility serving more than 58,000 Veterans in South Florida.

He recently served as the Assistant Director, Outpatient Services at VA North Texas Health Care System since 2018, which included an appointment as the Interim Director at the Amarillo VA Health Care System in early 2020. Prior to that, he served as Executive Assistant to the Director/Public Affairs Officer in 2013.

Mr. Garza began his VA career in 2009 at the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System as Public Affairs Officer, Patient Centered Care Coordinator and later as Strategic Planner/System Redesign Coordinator. Mr. Garza also served as Acting Administrative Officer at McAllen, Harlingen and Corpus Christi VA Outpatient Clinics, Acting Administrative Officer to the Associate Director and Acting Executive Assistant to the Director.

Mr. Garza is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt practitioner and Master Black Belt in training. He is a graduate of the 2011 VISN 17 Leadership Development Institute, 2015 VHA Health Care Leadership Development Program and the 2017 Executive Career Development Program. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at Edinburg, Texas.
