Dr. Alejandro was appointed the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive for the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Medical Center in June 2021. He brings over 30 years of nursing experience to this role. Dr. Alejandro continues to serve in the military as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. He is fluent in Spanish and English. He is past president of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, Case Management Society of America, and serves as the Treasurer for the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the second largest nursing organization in the world.

Dr. Alejandro was the recipient of the NAHN Latino Legacy Award (Lifetime Achievement) in 2021, the Luther Christman Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 and the CMSA National Case Manager of the Year Award in 2015. He is board certified as a Nurse Executive - Advanced (NEA-BC) by the American Nursing Credential Center, and in case management by the Commission on Case Management Certification, and the American Case Management Association. Dr. Alejandro is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and Virginia Henderson, Fellow of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
