He served for 28-years in the VA healthcare system in southern California within VISN 22 (his last station was VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System as Associate Director) and took a brief break in service as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Western State Hospital in Lakewood, Washington, before returning to VA to serve as an SES Director in southern Oregon. His career spans 33 years of leadership experience and five years of experience as a nurse assistant and recreation therapist across five states including Wyoming, Utah, California, Washington, and Oregon. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and taught - as adjunct faculty - MBA and health courses at five southern California universities, including UCLA Extension.
