Prior to VA Eastern Colorado, Dr. Rungta had been the chief of staff at the Bedford VA Medical Center in Massachusetts. She had oversight of 150-plus physicians and nurse practitioners, medical services budget and clinical programs, including the undergraduate and graduate medical education and allied health programs, as well as mental health and social work programs, to include community residential care, transition care management, health care for homeless Veterans, critical time intervention, domiciliary and VA supportive housing programs.

Dr. Rungta previously served in key leadership roles at Cincinnati VA Medical Center in Ohio, including chief of pathology and laboratory medicine and residency program director for surgical pathology, as well as several medical director rotations. She was the affiliate clinical associate professor for the pathology department at University of Cincinnati and before moving to Cincinnati, served as the lab director for the pathology and laboratory medicine department at VA Battle Creek Healthcare System, and staff pathologist at VA Ann Arbor Health Care. She served as an acting chief of staff at both Cincinnati and Chillicothe VVA medical centers and held collateral regional leadership positions in pathology and laboratory medicine.

Dr. Rungta earned a doctorate degree in medicine from University of Mumbai, India, and completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology from St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. She completed subspecialty fellowships in cytopathology from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and breast pathology from University of Michigan. She's an American Board of Pathology anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology diplomate. Dr. Rungta also earned post-baccalaureate certificates in health care administration and business foundations and a Master of Business Administration from Linder College of Business, University of Cincinnati.
