Ms. Widmann has demonstrated Pathway standards of Professional Development, Shared Decision-Making, and Wellness in her role at STVHCS. In an effort to enhance patient care, Ms. Widmann identified knowledge deficits in herself and others surrounding the LGBTQ+ Veteran community. She provided informational sessions to staff to ensure LGBTQ+ Veterans were promoted and in doing so promoted an environment of care that supports well-being and inclusivity.
As chair for the Health and Wellness committee for her unit, she identified stress levels of nursing staff were rising at an alarming rate due to demands from the COVID-19 pandemic and changing role expectations. To combat this, Ms. Widmann has set up monthly “Wellness Challenges” to promote the idea of “self” to fellow nurses. Her efforts have helped de-stress her team and made them more cognizant of their own needs, both physically and psychologically, promoting a healthier workforce.
“Marika epitomizes the Pathway Standards of Shared Decision-Making, Professional Development, and Well-being,” said Angel Louder, Nurse Manager and supervisor of Widmann. “Her efforts keep staff engaged and excited to provide the highest quality of care – physically, psychologically, and socially to each patient.”
Ms. Widmann is the first recipient from the State of Texas to receive this award and beat out several thousand other qualified candidates.
“It's an incredible opportunity to be recognized among the nursing community and even better to have STVHCS in the spotlight for its continued excellence in the Pathway designation and continued journey of distinction” says Widmann.
