He has direct oversite for Primary Care, Geriatrics, Surgery, Radiology, Dental, Informatics, Clinical Performance and Improvement, Medical Staff office, Whole Health, Compensation and Pension, and Community Medicine.

Prior to his tenure in Phoenix, Dr. Buterbaugh served at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System as a diagnostic and interventional radiologist in 2008.  He joined the Phoenix VA in 2016, becoming the section head of Interventional Radiology the following year. In 2020 he served briefly as the Associate Chief of Radiology before being assigned as the Phoenix VA Health Care System’s Interim Deputy Chief of Staff.  He holds faculty appointments with the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine and Creighton University – Phoenix.
