He relocated to the Pacific Northwest for his residency training in psychiatry at the University of Washington. Dr. Markman joined the staff of VA Puget Sound in 2013 as a psychiatrist in their PTSD Outpatient Clinic. He became the director of outpatient mental health at the Seattle Division in 2014 and has served as the acting and then permanent Associate Chief of Staff, Mental Health since 2018. Dr. Markman is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.  His areas of educational interest and research include professional development for medical trainees, faculty development, and professional mentoring. Outside of work, Dr. Markman enjoys tackling endless home improvement projects with his husband and recognizing that their dog, Alvin, truly runs the house.
