Dr. Kim was appointed Chief of Staff at the VA San Diego Healthcare System effective April 2017.  She previously served as the Acting Director from July 2022 through December 2022.

Dr. Kim graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a medical degree from Brown University. In addition, she has a master's degree in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her residency training in Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and then did a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in Mental Health Services Research at Yale.

Dr. Kim serves on the VISN 22 Executive Leadership Council. She has been a member of the VHA's Quality Safety Value Council and Data Governance Council. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In addition, Dr. Kim is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSD School of Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists (ACP) and a current member of the ACP Audit Committee. Dr. Kim is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
