Dr Rosendale is currently the Chief Medical Executive for the Veterans Affairs Western Colorado Healthcare System. He oversees all clinical activities for the main medical center in Grand Junction as well as for the outlying clinics in Western and Northern Colorado as well as South Eastern Utah. He is a board-certified General Surgeon and is Harvard trained in Clinical Informatics. He has earned professional excellence by becoming a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, and the American Medical Informatics Association. His career spans both federal healthcare systems including the Indian Health Service and Veterans Affairs as well as private sector roles as an executive leader, practicing surgeon, and health IT architect. Prior to coming back to the VA he worked at the White House level promoting health IT innovation and Interoperability. He had prior roles in VA and DoD as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for the Interagency Program Office (IPO) striving for modernization of the Electronic Health Record. Additionally, he provided consultation services to numerous Fortune 100 companies including IBM, HP, MITRE, Optum/United Health, and others. His last position was as the Chief Medical Interoperability Officer (CMIO) for Deloitte LLC supporting the information needs of multiple federal and private agencies. He is not only passionate about transforming healthcare with new models of care and leveraging technology, but he has given many conferences and taught masters level courses on the subject. He is also well published in his surgical and informatics domains. Most importantly, he is mission driven to empower Veterans to be at the center of their care and to develop high quality health care systems that are more efficient.
