Dear Psychology Internship Applicant,

We are pleased that you are interested in applying to the Psychology Internship Training Program at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY. Our training program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (Contact information for the APA Commission on Accreditation: 750 1st Street NE, Washington, DC 20002. Telephone: 202-336-5979).

Our Program adheres to the Association of Psychological Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) Guidelines and we participate in the computer-matching program for intern selection. Please review the information closely, particularly the application procedures and criteria for selection.

AY 2022-2023  Post-Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency (PB-RNR) – Program Contact Information

The RN Resident includes:

  1. Transition BSN from an entry-level beginner nurse to a competent professional nurse, who provides safe, quality care.
  2. Develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and performance.
  3. Develop strategies to incorporate research-based and other evidence into practice.
  4. Develop clinical leadership skills at the point of patient care.
  5. Practice collaboratively as members of the inter-professional healthcare team; and formulate an individual career plan that promotes a life-long commitment to professional nursing

Program structure

The facility will demonstrate a quality expected residency training program consistent with OAA standards national curriculum and CCNE standards which will include 80% experiential and 20% didactic education. The training program will be focused on Veteran specific topics and conditions. There will be Inter-professional educational activities where the PD will work collaboratively with our medical education to include training opportunities and didactic learning. They will be afforded the opportunity to rotate to areas such as the GRECC for rural health learning, OIF/ OEF to learn how to manage new veterans coming and how to access services in the VA They will be exposed to our Hud -Vash programs, Women’s Health Primary Care clinics, Long term care units and Spinal cord injury center in addition to Medical surgical areas; that includes the ICU, ER, and OR, giving them the exposure to recognize Veteran Centric care. The residents will be required to be involved in scholarly activities using evidenced based practice for quality improvements and system redesign projects.  The residents will be offered classes in yellow belt redesign training and research through our research department. They will be required to take the course on human-subject research through the CITI program and the IRB. The program will build on their knowledge learned in the undergraduate program and will provide learning objectives to guide the trainee in the mastery of the didactic knowledge as their guide to their practice per the OAA PBNR curriculum. This is a 12-month length training program that incorporates a clinical, didactic, and evidence-based practice curriculum

Program Eligibility or qualifications for applying

  • United States Citizen
  • Graduated from a CCNE or NLNAC accredited program with a BSN or MSN
  •  Minimum grade point average: 3.00
  • Must pass a pre-employment medical exam and drug testing
  • Obtain current, unrestricted RN license by start date

  • Resume: no more than 2 pages
  • Personal statement: 400 words “Why I wish to be Selected for the James J. Peters VA Post Baccalaureate Nurse Residency Program”.
  • Official Transcripts: in a sealed envelope
  • Two letters of support: One from school clinical faculty and one from another source
  •  DD-214: Submit if the applicant is a Veteran
