All products

Before you start

  • Your video or audio should be checked for accessibility and hosted on the official VA YouTube site. To add your video or audio to that site, contact your administration's Web Communication Office.
  • VAMC and Vet Center editors: visit VHA Digital Media's intranet page about YouTube.
  • At minimum, you'll need the URL and name of the video or audio on the VA YouTube.
  • You can link to video or audio using the "Add content block" button, in a content type like a detail page.

Add the VA YouTube URL to the media library

Before you can link to your video or audio, you'll need to add its VA YouTube URL to the Drupal CMS media library.

  1. From your homepage after logging in, click "Manage" in the top toolbar.
  2. Hover over "Content," hover over "Media," hover over "Add media," and click "Video."
  3. In the "Video URL field," copy and paste the YouTube URL.
  4. Enter the "Name."
  5. Enter the "Duration" (optional).
  6. The "Publication date" will default to the current date. Edit it if you want a different date.
  7. Enter the "Description." This is used to identify the media in the media library. Veterans won't see it on VA.gov.
  8. Click the "Section" dropdown menu and select your section. This tells which section manages this in the media library.
  9. Enter a "Revision log message."
  10. Click "Save."

You can link to the VA YouTube URL using the "Add content block" button. This is in a content type like a detail page.

  1. Find an existing node or create a new node that allows you to add a content block.
  2. Open the piece of content in the "Edit" tab.
  3. Find the field where you can add a content block. In a VAMC Detail Page, for example, that's under "Main content."
  4. Click "Add content block."
  5. Scroll down to "Link to file or video" and click "Add."
  6. In the new content block, click "Add media."
  7. In the Add or select media window, click the "Video" tab.
  8. In the "Name" field, enter the name of the video.
  9. Click the "Section" dropdown menu and select your section.
  10. Click "Apply filters."
  11. In the results, find the media you want and click the checkbox.
  12. Click "Insert selected."
  13. In the "Link text" field, enter the text that Veterans will click to go to the YouTube video. Follow VA content style guidelines for link text.
  14. Scroll down to the Editorial Workflow.
  15. Click "Save as" and select a moderation state.
  16. Enter a brief "Revision log message."
  17. Click "Save."
