Inpatient Nutrition Services
When a patient gets admitted to the hospital, part of their treatment may include a dietitian visiting to discuss food and nutrition. Each patient is screened for nutrition related needs when admitted. If a patient has a positive nutrition screen, a consult will be sent to the dietitian and that patient will be visited by a dietitian. There are several other reasons why a patient may be seen by a dietitian while in the hospital which include lack of appetite/intake; a nutrition related disease, such as diabetes, heart failure, hypertension; weight loss/weight gain; nutrition support (i.e. tube feeding) if you are unable to eat; or to discuss food/nutrition related topics.
