Residents will be provided with specialty and primary care rotations accompanied by didactic education for a well-rounded experience. The program matches residents with clinical and academic experts in a protected learning environment with opportunities for leadership development. Residents are provided expanded Veteran-centric competency-based curriculum.
Program goals
The post-graduate Nurse Practitioner Residency program provides an intensive clinical experience supplemented by interprofessional development activities to result in a better prepared nurse practitioner available to function independently in providing primary care health services for a Veteran population. The program is 12 months long focusing on the advancement of clinical, leadership and scholarship skills with an emphasis on Veteran centric care. The goal of the program is to enhance recruitment of competent nurse practitioners for careers within the VA. The program also increases opportunities for new nurse practitioners to participate in a structured precepting/mentoring program focusing on clinical competencies and improving professional confidence. On completion of the NPR program, residents will have one year of credible population-specific clinical experience necessary for assuming full practice authority.

Eligibility requirements
Applicants should be a U.S. citizen and fluent in English. They should have less than one year experience as a Nurse Practitioner and have graduated form a CCNE or NLN accredited program. Applicants should hold certification as an adult gerontology primary care or family care nurse practitioner as well as having a current, full, and unrestricted license as a NP. All applicants must submit to a background screening, physical exam, drug testing and credentialing verification of education and employment to be a part of the VA health care system.
How to apply
Applicants will need to fill out VA Form 10-2850D, Application for Health Professions Trainees. Current curriculum vitae or resume, transcripts and three letters of recommendation should also be sent. Letters of recommendation must come from a current or past professional peer as well as from your current NP academic program. Please send a copy of APRN license and board certification or notice of testing date. Applicants are asked to include a one page narrative describing your interest in a NP residency at the OKC VA Medical center as well as future goals.
Applications will be accepted pending graduation and boards. These items will need to be completed prior to start of the program in September of 2022.
Application dates
