If you’re feeling on edge and on guard, having trouble with sleep or motivation, or just feeling unlike yourself following a major event or critical incident, we can help. We’ll teach you tools to manage your symptoms to get back on track. Asking for help takes courage and we provide a private, comfortable setting with expert counselors to help you take that next step. Our counselors are specifically trained in helping individuals heal from trauma. 

We commonly address the following concerns:

  • Anxiety and stress reactions
  • Depression and lack of motivation
  • Sleep difficulties, nightmares, including sleep problems caused by shift work
  • Anger, aggressive behavior, and reckless behaviors
  • Difficulties adjusting to civilian life following a deployment or activation

We offer treatments such as these:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
  • Brainspotting

PTSD can cause symptoms such as feeling on edge, trouble with sleep, loss of motivation, or fluctuations in mood. We can provide the tools to manage these issues. Give us a call or visit the National Center for PTSD website for more information. 

We offer the following evidence-based practices and specialty care:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)
    Note: We use this therapy in the Battling Shadows group. 
  • Mindfulness Based Eco-Therapy (MBE)
  • Equine therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Seeking Safety for PTSD and substance abuse
  • Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Certification (CCTP)

Battling Shadows group (rotating schedule)

Battling Shadows is an 8-session program for Veterans who have experienced trauma and/or PTSD. We use the healing power of nature to enhance the recovery process.

A group referral is needed before joining the group, this includes an initial appointment with a counselor. Family members are welcome to attend the nature activity with the Veteran.

Meeting location: Outdoor Campus, 4500 South Oxbow Avenue Sioux Falls, SD 57104 (Sertoma Park)

We’ll meet outside as weather permits. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Our counselors use the following approaches for PTSD:

  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization Retraining (EMDR)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
  • Written Exposure Therapy (WET)

In addition, Veterans and service members will find staff with similar life experiences. We have 4 combat Veterans on staff—one from each branch of service.

We offer confidential one-on-one therapy as well as therapy within a group setting to help you address symptoms associated with PTSD. We can help address common symptoms such as anger management, anxiety, or depression, and support with social isolation, which is often common after trauma.   

Our counselors can provide Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to manage symptoms and recovery. We also offer group therapy, focusing on readjustment and PTSD. Speak to your counselor about joining our groups.
