The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends booster shots for everyone ages 18 years and older for Moderna and J&J vaccines, and everyone 12 years and older for the Pfizer vaccine. For those who received the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, you must have received your second dose at least five months ago. If you received the J&J vaccine, you must have received your original doze at least two months ago to receive a booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.

Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters are available on a walk-in basis to Veterans 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the blue clinic (primary care) at the main medical center. We still encourage you to call 801-582-1565 and press 2 to schedule an appointment for your booster shot.

VA Salt Lake City Community clinics are also offering the boosters, but you must call 801-582-1565 and press 2 to schedule an appointment.

If you haven’t been fully vaccinated yet, we are still giving the Moderna vaccine on a walk-in basis in COVID -19 Vaccination Clinic. We can give a first or second dose to any Veteran or their caregiver.

VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System offers free COVID-19 testing to Veterans enrolled in VA health care. Drive thru COVID-19 testing is available Monday-Friday from 7:15 a.m.-5:15 p.m. outside the Multipurpose Center, Building 8, George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center, Salt Lake City. Directional signs are located throughout campus.

Free at-home COVID-19 tests

Order four free at-⁠home COVID-⁠19 tests at COVIDtests.gov, or by calling 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489). Order tests now so you have them when you need them. Learn more about COVID-19 testing at VA.
