WLA Construction Advisory – B206 Renovation Start

Area of Impact

As a part of our continued effort to improve West Los Angeles Campus, construction crews will be starting renovation at B206. Since the building is partially occupied during construction, some personnel will need to be relocated until work is completed. Construction will be phased starting at the basement floor, rooms that have already been vacated. There will also be some noise disruption during construction for personnel staying in the area. Specific work and utility shutdowns will be communicated to staff in advance through additional notices.

Work will take place inside the building for the majority of the project. The contractor shall take all safety precautions to ensure the safety of all VA staff during the construction period. The contractor will provide separation between the construction area and the VA staff areas, utilizing signs, fencing, plastic dust barriers (temporary protection system), etc.

Dates & Times of Impact

Start on Monday, February 6, 2023

End on Friday, August 4, 2023

UPDATED WLA Construction Advisory – Phase 3 Temporary Road Closure of MacArthur/Vandergrift Ave. for Sewer Line Installation

Area of Impact

As a part of our continued effort to improve infrastructure across VA West Los Angeles Campus, construction crews will close off traffic lanes and sidewalks of MacArthur Ave through Vandergrift Avenue for the extension of new sewer lines. The affected area will be inaccessible to vehicular traffic and pedestrians; however, the loading area for building 258 will still be available for delivery vehicles and fire access only. The parking stalls in front of building 211 and next to building 258 will not be available during the closure. Alternate parking options are available in proximity. Lot 49 will have its exit closed-off; use the entrance for two-way access.

Traffic control measures will be implemented. Construction crews will place signage to redirect traffic and pedestrians. Please see exhibit A for closure areas, alternate parking options, and alternate entrance/exit route. Signage will direct vehicle traffic around the project sites and excavation in phases. A movable barricade will be placed at the intersection of Vandergrift and MacArthur to allow fire department access to the back side of B258 and the Brentwood Theater.

Dates and Times of Impact

Starts on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Ends on Friday, March 10, 2023.

Work will require excavation equipment, material delivery and placement. Contractor will excavate and place pipe each day backfilling as they install pipe. Open trenches will be fenced in with 6-foot-high chain link fence panels.

Signage will direct vehicle traffic around the project sites and excavation in phases. A movable barricade will be placed at the intersection of Vandergrift and Mac Arthur to allow fire department access to the back side of B-258, B156 and the Brentwood Theater. Signage stating road closed to through traffic will be placed at each end of road closure.

Update, Phase 2 - Partial Lane Closure for Installation of Fire Service Line and Fire Hydrants at Arnold Avenue

Area of Impact

Construction crews will temporarily close a portion of Arnold Avenue near the intersection of Arnold Avenue and Patton Avenue on the North side of campus. The lane closure is due to a construction project that requires street trenching and fire service line installation. The impacted area is on Arnold Avenue near building 300. This work does not block the entrance to the loading dock for building 300 and will not affect parking in front of building 300. Please see Exhibit A below.

Construction crews will install directional signage. In addition, crews will install pad and steel plates over road trenches. The southern part of Arnold Avenue will still be opened for vehicular traffic. Drivers should follow signage and proceed with caution while driving in the area. Traffic flow will be slowed around the impacted area. Pedestrians should proceed with caution while walking in the area.

Date & Time of Impact:

Extended End Date on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
