We screen all who enter the facility. Patients with COVID-19, symptoms or recent exposure should reschedule routine care to a virtual appointment or future date. Surgical masks or N95/KN95 are required and available at entry. No visitors are allowed. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.

Directions

From the North

Cross the Golden Gate Bridge.  Take the Highway 1/19th Avenue exit and go south through the General MacArthur Tunnel which puts you on Park Presidio.  At the third traffic light, turn right on Clement Street.  Go about two miles and turn right at 42nd Avenue onto the medical center grounds.  Patient and visitor parking is located in front of Building 1 and in the free valet parking garage.

From the East

Cross the Bay Bridge and exit at Ninth Street/Civic Center.  At the end of the ramp, bear left onto Harrison for one block and then turn right onto Ninth Street and stay to the left.  After crossing Market, stay to the left onto Hayes.  Turn right on Van Ness. Continue on Van Ness approximately ½ mile and turn left on Geary.  Continue on Geary for about four miles and turn right on 42nd Avenue, onto Medical Center grounds.  Patient and visitor parking is located in front of Building 1 and in the free valet parking garage.

From the South

Take interstate 280 north.  Near San Francisco stay to the left and follow signs to 19th Avenue/Golden Gate Bridge.  Stay in the left lanes and at the first traffic light, bear left onto 19th Avenue.  Continue on 19th Avenue 3 miles and stay in the left lane as you enter Golden Gate Park. Turn left at the traffic light onto 25th Avenue.  Continue on 25th Avenue for about one mile and turn left on Clement.  Go one mile and turn right at 42nd Avenue onto the medical center grounds.  Patient and visitor parking is located in front of Building 1.

Public Transportation

The 38 Geary/Ft. Miley bus (MUNI) goes directly to the Medical Center.  (Make sure the destination sign includes "Fort Miley.")  You can catch it downtown at the Transbay Terminal, or on Geary.  If coming from the North Bay, take the Golden Gate Transit Bus #50.  Get off at the first stop after it turns onto Geary.  Cross Geary and Park Presidio to catch the 38 Geary/Ft. Miley bus going west to the Medical Center.  San Francisco VA Medical Center is at the end of the 38 Geary/Ft. Miley route.

Transportation Services and Schedules

Transportation

The San Francisco VA Medical Center offers several transportation options for eligible Veterans and employees. These services operate Monday - Friday.

TransMETRO Transportation 

TransMETRO is a free bus service between the Medical Center and various transportation hubs in San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Daly City BART. It operates from 5:15 - 9:35 a.m. and 2:40 - 6:20 p.m. Access the Shuttle Schedule Here.

San Francisco VAMC Transport System 

This system is operated by San Francisco VAMC staff and provides service to and from: Eureka VA Clinic, Ukiah VA Clinic, Santa Rosa VA Clinic, Downtown Clinic, San Bruno VA Clinic and UCSF/Parnassus. For questions, please call (415) 221-4810 x2-2258 or x2-6310.

Volunteer Transport Network (operated by DAV Transportation Network)

The Volunteer Transport Network provides services from Santa Rosa, Fort Bragg, Mendocino, and various other rural locations throughout the northern counties that parallel the Highway 101 corridor. Clearlake Bus Route 10 Service (operated by Lake County Transit) 

Bus Route 10 provides services Monday-Friday from Lower Lake and around Clearlake city area and includes stops at the Clearlake VA Clinic. Click here to view schedule.  For Clearlake patients who need to travel to SFVAMC: Bus Route 10 also goes to the Santa Rosa VA Clinic where you can meet up with the 101 Northbound and Southbound shuttles to SFVAMC.

Mendocino Shuttle 

This shuttle runs between the Medocino County SS Office at 825 S. Franklin St., Fort Bragg and the Ukiah VA Clinic on Monday and Wednesday only. For information about the shuttle call DAV at (415) 221-4810, ext. 2-5612.

VA Shuttle to UCSF (operated by San Francisco VA Medical Center)

This shuttle runs from 7:35 a.m. to 5:05 p.m. It departs every 35 minutes from the SFVAMC in front of Bldg. 203. It departs from UCSF at 5 minutes after the hour from the UCSF pick up and drop off point, located adjacent to 401 Parnassus Ave, just east of the Muni bus stop. For questions about the SFVAMC Shuttle, please call (415) 221-4810 x2-2258.

UCSF Shuttle (operated by UCSF Transportation Service)

This shuttle runs between 6:35 a.m. and 7:05 p.m. Monday through Friday. It departs from the SFVAMC in front of Bldg. 203, and departs from UCSF adjacent to 401 Parnassus Ave, just east of the Muni bus stop. Schedules are available at the UCSF website here. Questions about this shuttle should be directed to UCSF Transportation Service at (415) 476-4646 or email:  shuttles@ucsf.edu.
