Add a new community access point

  1. After logging in, you'll be on your Vet Center dashboard with cards displaying different viewing or editing options.
  2. Scroll down to Satellite locations.
  3. Click Create new community access point.
List of satellite locations appears below dashboard

Location name

  1. Select  the Main Vet Center location that the community access point belongs to.
  2. In the Access point name field, enter the name of the town or neighborhood for the CAP location, such as "Nantucket" or "Provincetown."
    • Don't include the name of the Vet Center here. It will automatically be prepended to the text you enter in the field.
    • If you have more than one CAP in a town, give each location a unique name by labeling it with the name of the building or university, such as "Joint Base Cape Cod" or "Cape Cod Community College.
Scenario Naming convention Example
CAP is located in a different town/city than the Vet Center (usual scenario) Vet Center name (auto-populated)- City/Town of CAP Nashville Vet Center - Bowling Green
CAP is located in a bordering town (to another state) or if the city/town has a common name and needs the state distinction Vet Center name (auto-populated)- City/Town of CAP - state initials Memphis Vet Center – Clarksdale, MS
CAP is located in the same city/town as the Vet Center or another CAP location Vet Center name (auto-populated)- City/Town of CAP - building or school name Chattanooga Vet Center – Chattanooga State Community College (because it is also located in Chattanooga)
CAP is co-located at a VA Clinic (VA CBOC/Community Outpatient Clinic) Vet Center name (auto-populated)- City/Town of CAP San Juan Vet Center - Ceiba

Operating status

  1. Click to select an Operating status.  Add details in the More info field.

Address

  1. Enter the Address.
    • Since CAPs tend to use space in another building or business, use the Located at field to help first-time visitors recognize the location. For example,  "American Legion" or "Peak Vista Community Health Center."

View or adjust the map

  1. When you add or change the address of a community access point, the CMS will generate a new latitude and longitude for the location. This will update the map on VA.gov.
  2. Only site administrators can view and adjust the location’s latitude and longitude. If you need to adjust a CAP location on a map, contact the VA Drupal CMS Help Desk.
    1. Site administrators will see a map with a pin showing the CAP location, based on the saved latitude and longitude.
    2. To adjust the location:
      1. Drag the pin to the proper location on the map.
      2. Under Editorial Workflow, enter a revision log message and click Save. The latitude and longitude will update to reflect your changes.

Removing a community access point

If your pages are not yet live, you will not be able to remove a Community Access Point (CAP) from your site. Please contact the VA Drupal CMS Help Desk team and request the location be removed.

The VA Drupal CMS Help Desk team can also provide assistance if you have created a duplicate CAP, regardless of whether or not your Vet Center site has been published. Please use the "Contact Help Desk" button located on the lower right-hand side of this page if further assistance is needed.

Before you start

  • Your pages must be live
  • You must have Content Publisher access

How to remove a CAP

  1. From your Vet Center homepage, scroll down below the main Vet Center dashboard to Satellite Locations and click the Edit button to the right of the CAP name.
  2. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and locate the Editorial Workflow section.
  3. In the Save As dropdown, select Archived.
    • Note: The Draft option does not archive content; this option merely saves recent edits for publishing at a later time. Archived is the only option that can remove content from being displayed live on VA.gov.
  4. Click Save.
    • You will be taken back to the main page for the CAP, and if it has been archived successfully, the page will have a red background to denote that the content is no longer published.
