Where to insert a link to an external website
- Use the link icon in rich text menus to insert a link to an external website.
- Rich text fields are used in Prepare for Your Visit, Featured Content, and Services.
How to insert a link to an external website in a rich text field
1. From your dashboard after logging in, click to edit your Vet Center content.
2. Find the rich text field you want to insert a link into; for example, in a "Prepare for Your Visit accordion."

3. In another browser window, find the external website you want to link to.
4. Select and copy the entire URL in the address bar. Include the http or https.

5. In the rich text field, select the text you want to use as link text. Refer to VA style guidelines for links
- Tell Veterans why they should click the link and where it is going .
- For example, don't use "Learn more." Instead use "Learn more about burial flags."
- Use natural and descriptive language.
- Link the most important words or phrase.
- Don’t use ending punctuation except when the link text is a question.
6. Click the link icon in the rich text menu.

7. Paste the full external website address into the "URL" field.
8. Click "Save."

9. Continue editing your content.
10. Complete the "Editorial Workflow" and click "Save."
