How to edit an existing VAMC facility health service

Content intent

The VAMC facility health service is the official Veteran-facing record of what services are available to Veterans, caregivers, and their families at a specific facility. The services available for you to choose from are from the VA Health Services Taxonomy to ensure Veteran-facing language and loosely aligned throughout all of VA.

We structured this content so that we can use this as the official data source for services at your facility in other applications. In the future, Veterans who use other applications such as the VA Facility Locator, VA.gov search, Mobile applications, chatbots and more will be getting phone numbers, hours, walk-in availability, and other information because of the content you maintain here!

Before you start

The VAMC system health service must be added to your system before a VAMC facility health service can be added to your facility.

How to edit a facility health service

Health services plain language names, common conditions, and national descriptions are standardized nationally for a Veteran-centered experience. Contact VHA Digital Media with questions or feedback about health services names.

  1. On your homepage after logging in, find the section you want to edit under "Sections" and click on it.

  2. On the content page, click the "Content type" dropdown menu and select "VAMC facility health service."

  3. Click "Apply."

  4. Click the "Edit" button next to the facility health service you want to edit.

  5. Under "Appointments," click to select one of the Appointment intro text options.
  6. Under "Requirements," select whether referrals are required and select whether walkins are accepted.
  7. Under "Scheduling," select whether online scheduling is available.
  8. Under "Service Locations," add any specific location instructions for the service at that facility. Click the collapsed title to expand it, then add facility-specific address, hours, or contact information for that service.
  9. Scroll down to the "Editorial workflow."
  10. Click the "Save as" menu and select a moderation state.
  11. Enter a "Revision log message."
  12. Click "Save."
