The Veteran-centered purpose

“As a Veteran, family member, or caregiver, I want to know what health services VA offers so that I can understand what kind of care I can receive."

Content intent

VHA Digital Media and the Office of the CTO created the VA Health Services Taxonomy to ensure that we had a standard library of the health services that we offer Veterans. We want to ensure that Veterans understand the services we offer by using Veteran-facing plain language and that service names and offerings are loosely aligned throughout all of VA.

By structuring this data across VA, in the future we can help Veterans find the services nearest to them. It will help us to create an official data source for services at all of our facilities in other applications.

In the future, Veterans who use other applications such as the VA Facility Locator, VA.gov search, Mobile applications, chatbots and more will be getting phone numbers, hours, walk-in availability, and other information because of the use of this centralized taxonomy.

Instructions
