When to request an update

There may be times when a government site, or another external site, that has been linked in multiple places within Drupal nodes, updates their URL.  If that happens, this may cause many broken links across the VA.gov website. It would be our responsibility to resolve all of these broken links by updating each link to the new destination of the external website.

Linky can assist with this update by allowing an administrator to update a Linky reference once which will update all instances of the link across the website, rather than having to update each link individually.

It is important to remember that updating a Linky reference will update all instances of the link. Therefore, Linky requests should only be made when all instances of the link are broken and need to be updated.  If there are only one or two specific instances of the link that are incorrect and need to be updated, those should be edited using the standard link process.  If you need a reminder on the steps to edit links, please review the link section on the Rich text editor article.

How to request an update

  1. Fill out the Linky Request ticket in Github
  2. Notify the Help Desk team in Slack via the #cms-support channel
    1. As this issue involves broken links, it should be brought to the attention of the team as quickly as possible.
  3. A team member will respond within Slack letting you know they have reviewed the ticket.
    1. If there are any questions or missing information in the request they may ask for clarification.
    2. Once they have confirmed all necessary information, they will let you know when the issue is expected to be completed.
  4. When the issue is completed, the team member will close the issue ticket in GitHub and respond within the original Slack thread.
