Linky Module
In this guide
What is Linky?
Linky is a link management module that has been added to the Drupal CMS. It provides a content entity for managing external links.
When an editor adds a link within a node, Linky determines if it is an external link and if it is, will create a unique reference for that particular link. If that same link is used again, Linky will recognize it and will use the already existing reference for that link. In this way, if the external link changes, it can be updated only once in the Linky reference by an administrator and it is updated throughout all content in the CMS.
Managing a Linky link
The Linky module does not change how an editor will add or edit a link in the content, that process will remain the same. If you need a reminder on the steps to add links, you can take a look at the link section on the Rich text editor article.
Administration of Linky
If you are a CMS administrator, you will have access to the Linky management. This allows you to update the destination for the Linky references. You will want to edit link references here (rather than in individual nodes) when all references of a particular link should be updated.
- After logging in, click Content in the main navigation toolbar.
- On the right hand side, click the menu toggle for the Content dropdown menu and choose Managed links.
- You can search for the link you are looking to update by using either the Destination or the Title filter fields.
- Click Apply.
- When you find the link you want to edit, click Edit to the right of the link.
- Update the link URL (destination).
- Note: There is an editable input field for the Link text. However, changing the text on this screen does not change the link text within the content. This field should not be changed.
- Click Save.
