Before you start

Facilities associated with your health care system come from a centralized source outside of Drupal CMS.

If you do not see a facility that should be associated with your system, please see How do I add a facility to my health care system?

How to do it

1. On your homepage after logging in, find the section you want to edit under "Sections" and click on it.

2. From the content page, click the "Content type" dropdown menu and select "VAMC Facility."

3. Click "Apply."

4. Click the "Edit" button next to the facility you want to edit.

5. You won’t be able to edit the information inside the Basic location data section. Changes to this centralized data should be submitted to the contact listed in the Knowledge Base article on facility basic data.

6. The facility operating status communicates critical information about temporary situations that affect Veterans' access to services at that facility. For emergency situations, you may also need to post a VAMC System Banner Alert. If you need to request a  permanent change to the centralized facility hours, review the Knowledge Base article about facility basic data.

The operating status appears in two places: individual facility location pages and the "Operating Status" page.

Select the Status you’d like to use and add details, then click "Save."

  • Use Normal services and hours when things are operating normally.
  • Use Facility notice to indicate that visitors should be aware of certain circumstances before visiting. Be sure to provide details.
  • Use Limited services and hours for temporary changes to the facility’s normal hours, and use the detail field to indicate the new hours or impacted services.  Use limited services and hours for coronavirus related operating changes if virtual and telehealth services are available.
  • Only use Facility closed when there are no services available at the facility. If there are still telehealth appointments available for services Veterans would normally obtain at the facility, use 'Limited services and hours' instead, and make a note in the details.

7. Edit the "Page introduction," if needed.

8. Add an "Image," if needed. Click "Add media" and follow the upload instructions.

9. You shouldn't need to edit the "Meta description," which is used for web search results.

10. Click to expand the "Prepare for your visit" section.

11. Click "Add VAMC facility service" to add a new non-health care service, such as parking, lodging, dining, or safety. Don’t use this section to add health services. You can change the order of the services by clicking and dragging the arrow handles next to each service.

Each service appears as an expandable accordion on the facility page.

12. Click "Save as" and select a moderation state.

13. Enter a brief "Revision log message.

14. Click "Save."

Related content

There are a few other kinds of content that appear on a VAMC facility page that you won't be able to edit using this content type.

Health services offered at the facility

The facility page will automatically display a list of any health services that you have added a "VAMC facility health service" content type for. If you need to edit any of these health service accordions, you'll need to edit it in the individual "VAMC facility health service" content type.

Veteran satisfaction and wait time data

This section of the facility page displays satisfaction data as reported by Veterans who receive care at this facility. This data comes from a centralized database at VA and automatically added to this page. You won't be able to edit this information in Drupal CMS.
